Adria Basketball

Why clubs come back every Easter

Adria Basketball is not a weekend in a sports hall. It is a basketball festival where the tournament, the hotel and the beach share one address.

The sea is part of the tournament

Zelena Laguna sits on a green peninsula just outside Porec, with pine shade reaching all the way down to the beaches. Between games, players swim, walk and rest instead of sitting on a bus.

A genuinely international field

Since 2022 more than 300 teams from 18 countries have played here. No more than 3 teams from the same country are allowed per division, so your players face opponents they would never meet at home.

One base, the whole tournament

Every team sleeps in Zelena Laguna, so between games there is real time to rest and enjoy the resort and the beach outdoors. The main hall is a short walk away, and a bus brings you to the two halls in town.

Two levels, so every team gets real games

Each age group is split into ELITE and COMPETITION. You choose the level yourself, so the games are as competitive as possible.

Tournament

Boys and girls, U13 to U18

Seven competitions across four days. Teams choose their own strength level when they register.

Boys
  • U13born 2014 and younger
  • U14born 2013 and younger
  • U16born 2011 and younger
  • U18born 2009 and younger
Girls
  • U14born 2013 and younger
  • U16born 2011 and younger
  • U18born 2009 and younger
ELITE

For teams competing in the top tier at home, or any team with the strength and the appetite to play against the best in the field.

COMPETITION

For teams that do not play at the highest level in their own league and want a weekend of even, competitive games against teams like them.

  • The strength level is your choice, not a condition set by the organiser. You select it on the registration form.
  • Each division needs at least 5 registered teams. If a category does not reach that number, ELITE and COMPETITION are merged into a single division.
  • A maximum of 3 teams from the same country per division, for example 3 teams from one country in U13 ELITE Boys.
  • A club may enter a maximum of 2 teams in the same age group and the same division.

Girls

A real girls tournament, not an afterthought

Girls compete at U14, U16 and U18 in their own ELITE and COMPETITION divisions, on the same courts, with the same officials, the same medals and the same trophies as the boys. Every girls team is guaranteed four games and plays with a size 6 ball under FIBA rules.

FIBA

Format and rules

Games are played under FIBA rules and the rules of the Croatian Basketball Federation. Every team is guaranteed four games regardless of age group or format.

4 guaranteed games

Every team, every category, whatever the number of entries. The format adapts to the field, the guarantee does not change.

4 x 8 minutes, stop time

The clock stops at every interruption: out of bounds, fouls, free throws and time-outs. Half time is 3 minutes, breaks between quarters 1 minute.

Overtime 3 minutes

Played under FIBA rules in every deciding game. More than one overtime period may be played until there is a winner.

3 time-outs per game

Three in total per game, including overtime. Time-outs not used in regulation carry over into overtime.

Size 7 and size 6

Boys play with a size 7 ball in all age groups, girls with a size 6. Official game balls are provided by the organiser.

Full officiating crew

Two referees, a scorekeeper and a timekeeper at every game, plus medical staff in the hall and live score for every court.

How the standings are decided

When teams finish on the same number of wins, these criteria apply in order.

  1. Number of winsMore wins ranks higher
  2. Point differential across all group gamesPoints scored minus points conceded, with no cap
  3. Points scored across all group gamesHigher total ranks higher
  4. Head to headApplied only between the tied teams
  5. Drawing of lotsConducted by the organiser

Competition formats

The format follows the number of teams registered in each division.

TeamsHow it is played
5Single round robin, everyone plays everyone. Final standings come straight from the criteria above.
6Two groups of 3, then a placement group for 1st to 3rd and one for 4th to 6th.
8Two groups of 4 round robin, then knock-out crossovers for every placing from 1st to 8th.
9Three groups of 3, then placement groups for 1st to 3rd, 4th to 6th and 7th to 9th.
12Four groups of 3, then semi-finals and finals for places 1 to 8, with crossovers for 9th to 12th.
  • Arrival at the game: Teams must be on court at least 15 minutes before tip-off. A team that does not appear forfeits 0:20.
  • The organiser may adjust the schedule for operational reasons and will notify teams in advance. Objections are resolved by the tournament technical delegate, whose decision is final.

Zelena Laguna

Porec and Zelena Laguna

Zelena Laguna lies just outside Porec on a green peninsula covered in natural shade, right down to the beaches that surround it. The hotels sit directly on landscaped beachfront, and Porec itself is one of the best known tourist towns in Croatia, full of history at every corner.

Porec and Zelena Laguna

Games inside the resort

The Intersport sports centre is a few minutes walk from the hotels. Two more halls, OS Finida and Veli Joze, are 10 and 5 minutes away by bus.

Sea at the doorstep

Beaches, promenades and pine woods start where the hotel gardens end. Free afternoons are spent outside, not in a hotel lobby.

A town worth the trip

Porec has a UNESCO listed basilica, a Roman street plan and a seafront old town. Plenty for parents and siblings travelling with the team.
